Coach insurance
Liability in training and protecting your coaches
As a registered WRU coach, it is your responsibility to ensure a safe environment when training and coaching participants.
You could be held legally liable if a participant is injured during a session you lead, particularly if the environment is unsafe or if the guidance you provide is incorrect. As an affiliated coach with the Welsh Rugby Union, you are automatically covered by liability insurance as part of your membership. This coverage includes:
Public liability
Protection against claims arising from accidental bodily injury to third parties or damage to third-party property during insured activities. Coverage is provided up to a maximum of £25,000,000 per claim.
If you need evidence of your Public liability insurance to provide to third parties, you can access the relevant documentation by clicking here.

Important note: This insurance coverage only applies to approved and recognised WRU activities, including club training and coaching. If you offer WRU coaching services on a freelance or self-employed basis, this coverage does not extend to those activities, and you will need to secure alternative liability insurance.
