Structured Credit and Investment Risk

Enhancing transactions at every stage

We work with both credit portfolio management and deal teams within banks, adding value throughout the lifecycle of the transaction. Our services include advising on and negotiating terms of coverage, policy execution and ongoing support with respect to the operational requirements of the policy.

At the core of the Howden offering is experience in structuring unique credit risk transfer solutions for financial institutions. We are a multi-disciplinary team of professionals bringing together expertise from the insurance, banking and legal industries.

This diverse experience sets us apart in a crowded market by enabling us to deliver bespoke solutions across a wide range of asset classes. Our relationships with specialist underwriters at leading insurers around the world has enabled us to advise on a number of market first credit insurance placements for our clients.

Solutions tailored to your needs

Our solutions can be applied retrospectively to existing exposures as part of an active credit portfolio management strategy, or at origination to manage concentration limits, increase deal sizes and improve returns across a range of asset classes.

For banks seeking to use the product as a capital optimisation tool, our insurance contracts are capable of qualifying as a Credit Risk Mitigant pursuant to the CRD IV in Europe, Regulation Q in the United States and equivalent regimes in other G12 jurisdictions. Moreover, we can arrange cover on a single asset or portfolio basis, in relation to a wide range of exposures modelled on either the standardised or IRB approach to credit risk.

The placements we have advised on to date span the following areas:

  • Large corporate and sovereign lending;
  • Trade finance;
  • Repo lending;
  • Fund financing;
  • Project finance;
  • Loan and depository notes;
  • Derivatives; and
  • Synthetic securitisation.

Who are we?

Howden is an independent group, we work exclusively for our clients, not insurers.
