Welsh Gymnastics FAQs
Are Leisure Centres, who actively deliver Welsh Gymnastics recognised activity, such as the RISE programme covered?
- If the leisure centre, is registered with Welsh Gymnastics, then you are insured to coach gymnastics in sessions where all participants are members of Welsh Gymnastics. If the leisure centre is not registered with Welsh Gymnastics then you are not insured unless you are coaching within a Welsh Gymnastics club.
Are clubs, that hire facilities from Leisure Centres or other facilities such as community centres, covered?
- As the club is registered with Welsh Gymnastics, the Club is accepting to abide by the Welsh Gymnastics terms and conditions of membership and all rules and regulations in place at that time.
What if I want to deliver gymnastics in a facility that is not a recognised environment?
- You must make sure that you are covered by the insurance of the environment in which you participate/are working at, or by the organisation employing you.
Welsh Gymnastics coaches are covered to coach school gymnastics classes and also after school clubs, provided that these are delivered to pupils of the school only. If children from other schools are allowed access to a club or after school activity, at a school, this should be registered with Welsh Gymnastics as a club in its own right.
Insurance is provided for this. In this context, the school is a recognised environment, even though it is provided as part of the school curriculum . However, the participants/pupils of the school must be covered to participate under the schools insurance.
Any person who is not a member of Welsh Gymnastics or a Welsh Gymnastics affiliated club, whose application for a course of gymnastics activities has been accepted by the Insured, and course fees paid (if appropriate) and whose participation has been notified in advance, aged over 5 and under 80 years, and who is resident in the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, Channel Islands and Gibraltar will have limited personal accident cover. - more clarity of this does not cover non members participating in gymnastics activities.
Cover for birthday parties is included, provided that there is a level 2 coach or activity instructor supervising (not coaching) the activity/party. The Welsh Gymnastics insurance does not include any legal liability or personal accident insurance for hire or use of bouncy castles and you should ensure that cover is arranged with the hire company on a separate basis in writing.
It is also important to ensure you record and store is attendance at the party, the participants invited to the party and the adults/others in attendance. It is recommended that participants/parents are asked to sign a waiver, in respect of no fault personal injury and that they supervise and support their child at their own risk. A template waiver can be obtained from Welsh Gymnastics.
Liability for bouncy castles must either be agreed in advance, or otherwise Insured via the hire company and sight of and a copy retained of the insurance coverage for the hire of the bouncy castle.
It is generally the case that children participating in parent and toddler sessions, are not members of Welsh Gymnastics.
The club is permitted to operate parent and toddler sessions, where the child is not a member of Welsh Gymnastics. However, no legal liability or personal accident cover will be provided for the toddler (child) or the parent.
The club’s public liability insurance, provided by Welsh Gymnastics will cover the session.
It is important to ensure your club records and stores accurate records of the details of the parent and toddler in attendance at the sessions. A level 2 coach, or activity instructor, must be present to supervise (not coach) the sessions. Please note that all clubs will need to ensure they follow the Safe Environment Policy with regards to ratio for supervising which is 1:20 coach to participant, 20 per additional coach. The policy can be found here.
The Block Registration Scheme (BRS) has been put in place to extend insurance coverage to temporary, non-Welsh Gymnastics members, participating in recognised gymnastics environments.
This scheme is provided by registered Welsh Gymnastics clubs hiring facilities for short-term, ad hoc attendance/activity. It's an ideal solution for activities that don't fall under the usual Welsh Gymnastics membership offerings, like pay and play or adult classes.
