Federations

As a Federation affiliated to Angling Trust you will automatically benefit from a number of insurances.
Who is insured
Committee Officials and Officers of the Federation.
Cover extends to the working parties who support the Federation for maintenance of land or waters for which the federation are responsible.
Federation member Clubs or Individual Members are not included within the Angling Trust Insurance benefit provided to the Federations. The Federation members or member clubs can individually affiliate to Angling Trust to access their member benefits.
Federation recognised activity
- All disciplines of angling in freshwater or at sea within territorial waters and from land and watercraft
- Ownership management of Land and waters
- Administration management of the Federation business
- Role of Water bailiff
- Management of Fish Stocks
- Organisation of Conferences Events and competitions
- Use of boats/Watercraft where the vessel is less than 8 meters in length. PLEASE NOTE : Provision / delivery of Charter Fishing is not included under this insurance
- Pest Control – Use of Fire Arms is not insured and must be referred to Angling Trust and Insurers to establish availability of insurance
- Promotion and Development of Angling
- Coaching activity - Coaches must hold coaching qualifications recognised by Angling Trust.
- The insurance applies whilst undertaking Angling Activities in the UK and extends to temporary visits anywhere in the world excluding the United States of America and Canada, their territories unless the temporary visit is for less than 90 days.
Public & products liability with a limit of indemnity of up to £10 million any one occurrence and in the aggregate in respect of products liability protecting the club/syndicate its members and club volunteers against your legal liability for bodily injury to third parties and damage to their property and includes defence for obstruction, loss of amenities, trespass, nuisance, or interference with any right of way, light air or water whilst undertaking the Angling Trust recognised activity
Where a member club, syndicate, fishery or federation operates a reservoir – a specific reservoir endorsement applies which is a condition which must be met for liability insurance cover to apply. Please see your evidence of insurance supplied by Angling Trust.
Please note that with effect from the 24 August 2020 to 24 August 2022 a communicable disease exclusion applied to this section of the insurance policy.
Use of power tools
Insurers will not indemnify you for any legal liability arising from the use of power tools unless:
- Power tools are used as per the manufacturers guidelines
- Power tools are only used by competent adult
- Power tools are to be securely locked away when not in use
- Use of chainsaws is permitted only by users wearing the appropriate PPE equipment - it is strongly recommended that those using chainsaws should hold the appropriate qualifications
Use of subcontractors
If you are using subcontractors for example but not limited to maintenance of land or building works it is a condition of the insurance that all sub contractors engaged by you shall have in force public liability insurance for third party bodily injury or damage to property with a minimum limit of indemnity of £5 million throughout the duration of the contract with you. You must hold and retain documentary evidence of the insurance prior to the commencement of the any contract.
Professional indemnity insurance with a limit up to £10 million protecting the federation if held responsible for breach of professional duty arising from negligent act error or omission committed in connection with those roles at the federation arising from your Angling Trust recognised activity.
This section includes a libel and slander extension. Where coaches are appointed they are only insured to their level of qualification.
This section of the cover is written on a claims made basis and is subject to retroactive date 25 July 2017 It is essential that any claims or circumstances that might give rise to a claim are notified during the policy period in accordance with the terms of the policy wording otherwise the right for indemnity under this insurance will be forfeited.
Covers you if held liable for an injury that an employee suffers during the course of employment. The policy includes injuries to volunteers and the maximum limit of cover is £10 million (limited to £5 million in respect of terrorism) This is a legal requirement for any club that employs people paid or unpaid.
Protection for the directors, officers, senior managers, committee members and trustees against claims arising from their decisions or actions taken whilst managing the club/syndicate.

This section of the cover is written on a claims made basis and is subject to retroactive date 25 July 2017. Personal accident insurance which provides “no fault” benefits should an injury happen to an insured person whilst undertaking an activity as recognised under your Angling Trust insurance policy.

Portable items section
Territorial Limits – UK

We would highlight the following exclusions:
- Theft or damage to the equipment in your care custody control or otherwise in a locked hotel room or safe or other securely locked room or premises - evidence of forcible and violent entry or exit.
- Theft from unattended vehicles unless the item is out of sight in a locked boot or locked storage compartment.
11.1 Sporting Kit and Equipment Condition Sporting Kit & Equipment is defined as recognised equipment which is used in connection with the participation of the Insured Sport up to a Single Article Limit of £1,000 unless otherwise stated in the policy Schedule.
Damage to fish stock
Damage to fish stock is excluded other than damage caused by Storm, Malicious Damage, Theft or Death caused by Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) or Spring Viraemia of Carp (SVP), providing that the following safeguards have happened and the following preventative measures are in place:
i) Dip-tanks are in place at the fishery and their use is mandatory for all nets, unhooking mats and weighing slings / fish retention devices, whether belonging to the individual angler or provided for anglers’ use by the fishery.
ii) The fishery should regularly monitor fishery health and should maintain appropriate records.
iii) The fishery must report promptly to the Environment Agency in the event that any diseased or distressed fish are observed or reported in the fishery and should take appropriate action as advised by the Environment Agency.
iv) The appropriate Environment Agency permits and permissions must be received and agreed in respect of any fish being moved and or introduced to the fishery.
In respect of the Federation Property Insurance the following theft restrictions apply and must be complied with for a successful claim to be considered;
8.7 Theft or attempted Theft from
8.7.1. any unattended vehicle unless:
a. all doors and windows are closed and securely locked and the vehicle manufacturer’s security systems are in operation;
b. entry to the vehicle has been effected by forcible and violent means;
c. all items are stored out of sight in a locked boot or covered luggage area whilst in a vehicle that has been fully secured.
8.7.2. any Building not owned by You unless;
a. the Property Insured is the personal custody of You, any Employee or club member; or
b. the Property Insured is locked within the aforesaid Building and entry has been effected by forcible and violent means.
8.7.3. Your Premises when closed for Business and at all other appropriate times when left unattended, unless the intruder alarm and security precautions are in operation and entry has been effected by forcible and violent means.
