The Angling Trust Combined Liability provides defence for legal liability following negligence/nuisance/trespass. Unlike other Liability insurances, it not only covers Public Liability (where you are liable for injury or damage to other persons or their property), but also includes cover for the following which are excluded from other providers standard covers:

  • Professional Indemnity – Injury following advice (e.g. during coaching/Instruction)
  • Libel and Slander – Liability following something you say or written down (including content on websites/emails etc)
  • Directors and Officers cover – for decisions made by committees
  • Abuse (only where you have fulfilled the criteria of the protection of children and adult at risk requirements of Angling Trust policies)

In respect of teaching/coaching the following definition is within the policy wording.

The person had either the necessary and appropriate 

Qualifications and or registration and or accreditation and or licencing from an accredited sports institute or the sports national association or governing body or authorised from the sports national association or governing body or its regional representative to who or which this authority is devolved.

Qualified person means a qualified person appointed by the club league or association noted in the schedule to act as a coach official but only whilst acting in the scope of their duties in such capacity. 
 

Yes the use of marine craft is insured where the vessel is up to 8 metres in length whilst undertaking your angling activity.

Please note however that the use of the watercraft for the provision /delivery of charter fishing is excluded irrespective of the size of the craft.
 

If you are affiliated to Angling Trust as a club, syndicate, fishery or riparian owner and you own or lease the land and waters the liability insurance  includes defence of allegations of negligence resulting in injury arising  from the ownership or occupation of such land and waters.

The Angling Trust and the liability insurers recognise that working parties will operate to maintain the land and waters. This activity is insured from both the public liability and employers liability exposure arising from the use of employees and volunteers to undertake this activity.

Use of power tools - Insurers will  not indemnify you for any legal liability arising from the use of power tools unless:

  • Power tools are used as per the manufacturers guidelines
  • Power tools are only used by competent adult
  • Power tools are to be securely locked away when not in use
  • Use of chainsaws is permitted only by users wearing the appropriate PPE equipment.- IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT those using chainsaws should undertake appropriate training for their use.  Various qualifications are available.

Yes the role of club or fishery bailiff is included within the Angling Trust recognised activity.

You have a duty of care to your members, volunteers  and third parties participating in your activity.  A risk assessment should therefore be recorded for your activities as evidence that you are managing your risks should an allegation or claim arise.

You should also identify training needs and provide training, retaining a training record, for the activities your employees and volunteers undertake at and for your group, to ensure they understand their role and how to perform it safely. 

The Angling Trust liability policy has been extended to include trustees within those insured.

Junior members who are under the age of 12 must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult member for the insurance to apply.

You have a duty of care to all those who may attend the site for which you are responsible.  Where you are responsible for the maintenance of the property/land/waters where you operate it is important you regularly survey your site and undertake risk assessments to identify the hazards and assess the risks particular to your site.  For example health of trees, fishing platforms, walk ways, paths and car parks.  You should operate with a maintenance record, identifying type of check, frequency and work undertaken to ensure the safety of all on site.
