Combined Liability

All coaches and officials should do everything reasonable to ensure they do not cause injury or financial loss to anyone or damage to property. If an incident causes injury, loss or damage and member negligence can be proven, they can become legally liable to pay compensation.

England Netball has arranged liability protection for coaches and officials working at any England Netball club, Group, Region, County and League.

The insurance provided as part of your membership covers the following for those operating within the England Netball community:

  • An England Netball Active Category A Personal Member who holds a Coaching Qualification level 2 and above
  • A Level 1 Coach who is under the supervision of a Coach with a level 2 or above qualification
  • An England Netball Active Category A Personal Member who has completed the officiating pathway and successfully passed their practical assessment
  • Personal Members who are working towards an England Netball or Europe Netball Umpiring Award, are considered “in training” and are covered by England Netball’s centrally arranged programme of insurance to officiate recognised and authorised netball activity as long as they are supported on-court by a fully qualified co-umpire. Individuals must have attended an approved course and be within 2 years of the start date, have a valid written assessment and be within 2 years of the pass mark or be awaiting a practical assessment. However please note in the case where two “in training” Into Officiating umpires are umpiring the same match, a third fully qualified individual (be that a qualified umpire or a qualified Assessor, Mentor or Tutor) should be present to support and oversee the two trainee umpiresIndividuals must have attended an approved course and be within 2 years of the start date, have a valid written assessment and be within 2 years of the pass mark or be awaiting a practical assessment.

Coaches who operate independently as a business are not insured under the England Netball Insurance. If you are coaching in a professional capacity on a freelance basis and receiving payment, whether as a sole trader or as a company, you should ensure that you arrange your own liability cover in respect of your coaching activities.

Your Combined Liability cover includes:

Public Liability Insurance

Public liability insurance supports you should a claim be made against you following loss or damage to someone's property or causing them an injury. The cover is provided up to a maximum limit of £10m for any one event.

Coaches cover includes:

  • Public Liability, liability for damage to leased and rented premises
  • Member to member liability
  • Indemnity to principals
  • Liability out of goods sold supplied including refreshments.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

Professional indemnity protects coaches and officials if claims for compensation are made against you for financial loss allegedly caused by negligent errors or omissions in advice that you have provided. This includes defamation cover.

Personal Accident cover

This benefit provides cover for members up to the age of 80 who become injured as a result of an England Netball recognised and authorised activity internationally.

This policy covers you for accidental injuries sustained during an activity which result in:

  • Death
  • Loss of limbs
  • Loss of hearing or sight
  • Permanent or temporary disability

Cover is not included for sickness or injuries resulting from a medical condition. Exclusions apply for activities taking place in areas affected by conflict.

If you feel you require additional benefits or higher temporary disablement benefits we recommend that you purchase an additional policy such as Income Protection insurance to support you that is appropriate for your individual needs.

Income Protection

Are you worried about your income if you were injured or sick and unable to work?  Income protection is designed to replace or supplement your income in the event that you are unable to work

Insurance can be taken out to cover accidents/sickness and is intended to provide short term cover ranging from 12 to 24 months or up until retirement on long term accident and sickness cover, depending on the policy.  Common reasons for taking out income protection includes protecting mortgage or loan payments whilst ensuring you are able to maintain your lifestyle and can continue to financially support your family and loved ones.

Let us help you find income protection insurance that is right for you.  Once we establish you are eligible for insurance cover, Howden Life & Heath can tailor the policy cover to meet your individual needs.  For further information click here
