Howden, in partnership with RPC, recently delivered a webinar to discuss the key issues and current challenges facing Surveyors. The webinar was recorded and the link to view is available below.

Law firm RPC provide an update on the Court of Appeal’s judgment in December of the high profile case of Hart v Large, as it continues to bring into focus the measure of loss in surveyors negligence.

It's important to understand how to avoid conflicts of interest due to the risk of claims, reputational damage, and the risk of regulatory intervention or disciplinary action. RPC consider the RICS Professional Statement of March 2017, addressing the types of conflict that can occur and the steps to take to avoid them. They also discuss the current position and latest guidance on the EWS1 (External Wall System) forms in light of the changing guidance and the recent RICS Consultation.

All the while, the challenges of the Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) market are still ever present. The property market continues to show stability, though insurers persist in limiting their appetite due to fears of further economic volatility and the potential for increased frequency of claims.

Howden and RPC are pleased to share with you an important update on the latest legal trends impacting surveyors, as well as offering guidance on how to best to position yourself when approaching renewal of your PII, to ensure all is being done to try and reach the best available outcome.
