Why specialist insurance for dentists can bring you peace of mind

Dentistry offers highly rewarding career opportunities, but it is not without its risks. It is crucial to have the right indemnity and insurance policies in place throughout your career, which you can trust to protect you and your livelihood in the event that a claim is made against you. Knowing you have a highly experienced team of experts ready to fight your corner provides peace of mind that you cannot afford to go without. A specialist insurance broker like Howden strives to deliver products and services you can rely on exactly when you need it most. All of these are specifically designed for the dentistry sector and evolve to respond to the latest innovations and practices.

But why would you trust Howden above others? Why choose us?

Everything we do is designed to make insurance easier. We cater to the full spectrum of insurance requirements, whether professional, commercial or personal so that you get the right cover and support for you. Our dedicated insurance experts are only ever a phone call away and are here to support all of your insurance enquiries.

Policies tailored for all career stages

Whether you’re a student or a dentist looking towards retirement, we offer bespoke policies to suit you. We offer competitive premiums, with low minimum options available for students. We also provide flexible policies that can incorporate comprehensive retro-active cover for total confidence in dentists approaching career breaks or retirement. As such, even if you have previously held insurance with a Mutual Defence Organisation (MDO), if they are unwilling or unable to pay for a claim, we can deal with this too.

Contract certainty

All indemnity policies from Howden are contract certain and guaranteed by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). What does this mean? In short, that we will cover you when you need us. This is different from MDOs, who provide discretionary cover. Acceptance of any claim made by a member is at their discretion and they are under no legal obligation to provide assistance, so you could be left to defend for yourself at a time when you most need support. Why run the risk?

 10 years run off

We provide a full run off discovery period of 10 years for the discovery of claims following death, permanent disablement or retirement. This means you and your loved ones are looked after for years after you practise or should the worst happen.

Fitness to practice cover

Our policies provide cover for all regulatory and GDC-related issues that you may face as a dental professional. We ensure that we are up-to-date with the latest rules and guidelines to deliver a strong defence in the ever-changing landscape. We support this with a suite of legal document templates that cover general contracts, such as those related to employment. As a client of Howden, you are also given access to a medico-legal helpline, with a team of highly skilled and experienced lawyers on hand to offer expert advice, whenever you need it.

Commercial as well as professional cover

Need insurance for your dental practice, as well as your own Dental Indemnity? We provide insurance policies designed specifically for the unique requirements of dental practices in the UK. We understand the importance of increased policy limits to accommodate high value machinery and equipment in practice, for instance. We can also customise our policies to cover a single dental surgery or multiple practices, including support for:

  • Building and contents insurance
  • Employers liability insurance
  • Public liability insurance
  • Cyber insurance
  • Dental Locum insurance
  • Vicarious liability insurance
  • Cover for dental nurses and dental hygienists/therapists

Making insurance easier

As a Howden client, you will have a dedicated account handler, who knows you and your situation well. We don’t believe in call centres making things more difficult – we are simply here for you. We also have the option to pay premiums in equal, no-interest monthly instalments to make purchasing first-class protection and peace of mind even more affordable for different budgets.
