Fluorinated gases and HVAC: mastering risks and regulatory compliance.
The F-GAS III regulation: a pillar of the Green Deal.
The special report of the IPCC, published in 2021, highlights the importance of reducing emissions of fluorinated greenhouse gases.
The set goal is ambitious: a 90% decrease by 2050, compared to 2015 levels.
This measure is deemed necessary to limit the impact of climate change.
The European F-GAS III regulation dedicated to fluorinated greenhouse gases fully aligns with the goals of the European Green Deal launched by the European Commission in 2019. This deal aims to make the European Union the first climate-neutral continent free of pollution by 2050.
Annex VI, which details the method for calculating the global warming potential (GWP) of mixtures (article 3.1), highlights the increasing role of flammable refrigerants as sustainable alternatives in the refrigeration and air conditioning sectors.
However, the use of these fluids carries specific risks.
It is the responsibility of the actors in the supply chain - manufacturers, distributors, and installers - to implement a rigorous Risk Analysis, adapted to their role.

This approach helps to limit responsibilities in case of a dispute.
To be effective, risk analysis must be based on a particularly fragmented regulatory environment:
- European legal acts (Directives, Regulations...) DESPP, F-Gas III, CLP/REACH, ATEX
- French regulatory texts (orders, decrees...) "CH35", "Guide M", CTP 2020 in application of the AM of November 20, 2017.
- Standards (NF, EN, ISO\...) NF EN 378-1 to 4: 2017, NF EN IEC 60035-2-89: 2019, series 60079...
In summary, The mastery of risks related to the use of these fluids cannot be achieved without a clear understanding of regulatory and normative requirements. This approach not only ensures conformity but also security and The responsibility of the actors involved.
