Did you know?

Since April 1st, 2024, the green card has disappeared in France. Law enforcement officers only check that the insurance obligation is being respected through the "Insured Vehicles File" (FVA). There is no longer any document to present. However, your broker Howden will send you a "Memo" to help you fill out your amicable report in case of an accident.

What does the "Memo" insured vehicles convey?

This is a personalized document, in electronic or paper form, with no validity period, sent by your Howden insurance broker. You will find there the information necessary to complete an amicable report. With Howden, you can also obtain this document via your usual extranet access. It contains the same information as the car insurance document:
  • Name and address of the insurance company
  • Last name, first name(s), and address of the subscriber
  • Insurance policy number
  • Date of issue of the document
  • Effective date of the warranty
  • The vehicle registration number
  • The brand and model of the vehicle
  • The precision if the warranty applies only to the vehicle, or also to one or more trailers or semi-trailers. If applicable, the document mentions the type of trailers and semi-trailers that can be used.

And abroad ?

An international motor insurance card (more commonly called a “green card” or IMIC “international motor insurance certificate”) is necessary to travel with your vehicle registered in France, only in the territories of the countries below:
Albania • Azerbaijan • Morocco • Moldova • Republic of North Macedonia • Tunisia • Türkiye • Ukraine
Belarus, Russia and Iran have been suspended from the green card system.

Since April 1, 2024, the international automobile insurance card, formerly called the “green card,” is white. It contains the same information as the previous green card, can be submitted electronically, but must be printed. It can only be printed on the front without the address of the foreign offices on the back. As of January 1, 2025, all countries must accept that this document is presented on a smartphone. No authority will be able to ask you to print this document again.
