Howden acquires Major Insurance Services, establishing its regional presence in Western Australia
Bunbury, Australia, 25 February 2025: Howden, the global insurance group, announces it has acquired Major Insurance Services (Major), a general insurance broker based in the commercial centre of Bunbury in Western Australia (WA).
Established in 2015, Major has built up a diversified portfolio across long-standing private SMEs to mid-corporate businesses. Combined with the client portfolio of Unicorn Risk Solutions (Unicorn), who recently rebranded to Howden, this acquisition will cement Howden’s position in regional WA and enable Howden to benefit from the rapid growth in Bunbury and the wider Southwestern region.
Major will play an integral part in Howden’s WA broking business and will satisfy the end-to-end needs across the full spectrum of corporate to SME clients in the region.
Matt Bacon, CEO, Howden Pacific commented: “We are honoured that Major has chosen to partner with Howden and are very proud to be part of the next chapter in their journey. Major has built a successful operation in Bunbury and has an ongoing commitment to client service. This acquisition strengthens our Western Australian broking strategy, expanding our presence into a new and key geographical region and complements our position in Australia. We see a lot of future positive collaboration between Howden and Major, providing clients easy access to leading insurance solutions.”
Jerom Major, Director, Major Insurance Services said: “We are extremely excited to become a part of the Howden family. The synergies between the companies are very closely aligned, focusing on clients, staff and the community as a whole. The Howden people-first philosophy, client focus and professionalism were a priority to all parties when considering this partnership.
Over the past 35 years I, and consequently, Major Insurance Services have built a strong following across both Western Australia and the Northern Territory and now with Howden’s expertise and global reach, this will only strengthen our clients’ positions.
Major Insurance Services will continue to operate from our local Bunbury office where service levels will remain the same, but with additional support and benefits offered by Howden.”
Eddy Pope, Head of Howden WA added: “Unicorn, now Howden, has serviced many valuable clients in Western Australia’s South West over the last twenty-five years and expanding our local presence and capability in this region is a natural evolution that will further strengthen the service offering to all of our clients in the South West. Jerom Major has built a very successful and reputable insurance broking business, and we are delighted that he has embraced the opportunity to further grow his business with Howden. Jerom and Howden are totally aligned in the thought that this partnership is fantastic for our clients and people. We are very excited about what is to come!”
