Our history 

In early 2018, Howden launched a strategic partnership with B R Puri & Company Limited to form Howden Puri. B R Puri is the oldest insurance broker in Tanzania, and was one of the first established in the country over 60 years ago. During that time, we have built strong relationships in the local market and gained unrivalled experience working with insurers around the world. 

As Howden Puri, we combine Puri’s local experience and expertise with Howden’s international reach. To our local clients, we offer access to Howden’s global specialisms - present in 40 countries and all international insurance hubs. As the only global Top 20 broker with a presence in Tanzania, we also offer our international clients a direct access to local Tanzanian brokers with pedigree. 

Employee ownership at our heart

Around 800 Howden Group employees are shareholders, and we aim to keep growing that number so employees worldwide continue to feel they are part of the future and success of the business.

While we are backed by patient, long-term investment capital, employees will always remain the largest shareholder group.
