Thomas Barthel - Managing Director

As a trained shipping agent, Thomas has 25 years of experience in shipping and in the field of marine insurance. Before joining Howden in 2010, he worked for two of the most important German shipping companies - Hamburg Süd and Peter Döhle Group. Here, marine insurance was always the focus of his activities, both in broking and in claims processing. His extensive area of ​​responsibility includes the management and coordination of day-to-day business as well as business development.

Julius Vieregge - Account Executive

Julius has joined the team in 2018 after graduating from Liverpool John Moores University as a Master of Science in Maritime Operations Management. In addition, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Shipping & Chartering from the Bremen University of Applied Sciences and is a trained shipping agent (Sartori & Berger, Kiel). He has gained further practical experience in the form of several student employments / internships with Hamburg Süd Australia, Hapag-Lloyd AG and Harren & Partner Group as well as a port operations employment for Port of Kiel. Julius is part of the broking team where he is  predominantly handling the day-to-day business and liaises with our clients and insurers.

Finn Berner - Account Executive

Finn is a trained shipping agent and has graduated from the Bremen University of Applied Sciences with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Shipping & Chartering in 2017. Since then he has gained valuable practicable experience as claims handler with a Hamburg based Marine Insurance Broker before he joined the Howden team in 2020. He has gained further practical experience in the form of several student employments / internships with PWC, Hapag-Lloyd and Enterprise Shipping Agency in Italy. Finn is part of both the claims and the broking team where he is  predominantly handling the day-to-day business and liaises with our clients and insurers.

Ruth Marten - Claims Executive

Being a trained ship broker Ruth has spent most of her career with a reputable bulker owner/operator in Hamburg where she was part of the technical management team. Ruth has also gained valuable expertise during a 12 months work experience with one of the International Group P&I Clubs. At Howden Hamburg she is the first port of call for all claims handling matters and is also providing assistance to the broking team.
