As a tour operator, we particularly appreciate the simplicity of being able to cover the whole group without the need to collate individual details of every group member.

School group travel insurance FAQs

Travel insurance isn’t required by law, but it’s sensible to have, especially if it's a travel group of young people on a school trip or expedition.

Having cover in place means that if something unfortunate happens, like needing to access medical treatment or losing a passport, the travellers would be covered. This could bring reassurance to parents or guardians who would otherwise need to pay out in full. Most insurers include a range of risks, including cover for cancellation and curtailment, replacement passports, and baggage.

For travel agents and school trip organisers, it's good to know that this cover can offer extra peace of mind for customers, parents, and travellers. Rather than schools or parents having to sort travel insurance for their children’s school trips, the cover is already included within the cost of the trip, or available to buy as an add-on if they'd like.

Passport issues can be a big concern when travelling with youth or school groups. That’s why our travel insurance for youth and school trips covers up to £200 towards the cost of transport and extra accommodation. This covers passports that have been lost, damaged, or stolen. What's more, cover can be built around your requirements.

We understand that travel insurance for school trips abroad is an important safeguard, and that the safety of your travellers is your number one priority. That’s why we offer up to £5m cover for medical expenses such as hospital visits, ambulance use, and medical repatriation costs. The cover level can also be flexible to what you need.

When looking for travel insurance for groups of young people, you may wonder what happens if the group leader is injured and can’t continue travelling.

We know it’s important to maintain staff-to-student ratios, so the trip can continue smoothly and safely. That’s why if a group leader can't travel, we provide cover for personal liability, personal accident, and death. We’ll also issue a group leader replacement so the trip can continue safely. Check your insurance policy documents for more details.
