Extensive cover for complex organisations

Insurance for large charities provides cover against the many risks these organisations can face. From public liability to cyber cover, a policy can consist of a range of insurance types that offer financial protection. This can also help your charity fulfil its duty of care towards staff, the public, and its assets.

We'll take the time to understand your organisation and how it operates. Along with comprehensive insurance, we offer a specialist account management service for charities with an annual turnover of over £350,000.

What does large charity insurance cover?

Your policy can include a number of cover types to match the risks you face, including:

Public liability insurance covers the cost of a claim if someone (other than an employee) accuses your charity or its people of injury or property damage that’s caused them loss. This includes legal defence costs and any compensation awarded.

Some venues and third-party contracts may ask that you have this cover in place.

You’ll need employers’ liability insurance by law if your charity employs anyone. This covers the cost of a claim if an employee or volunteer becomes injured or ill through their work and makes a claim against your charity.

Without it, you could face large fines, uninsured claims, and potential damage to your charity's reputation.

Unexpected events, like fires, floods, and storms, can stop a charity from operating. Business interruption insurance covers lost revenue and additional costs for a specific period of time, to help you get back on track.

This protects the personal liability of your decision-makers. That’s your individual trustees, governors, officers, and committee members. If a claim is made against them for a wrongful act – such as a breach of duty of care or negligence in their advice – legal defence and compensation costs are covered. Otherwise, they’d be personally liable to pay these.

Cyber insurance for charities protects you financially if data breaches, malicious cyber hacks or other data security threats happen. It covers costs associated with these events, including IT forensics and loss of income.

It can also cover third-party liability if you’re sued for causing a data breach through mistakes or oversights. Specialist legal advice and expertise to help minimise the damage to your reputation are also part of the package. To find out more, get in touch.

If your charity owns buildings or is responsible for them under maintenance agreements, you may need buildings insurance. You can extend this to include accidental damage and subsidence. You can also add contents insurance for your charity’s possessions, such as equipment, stock, furniture, and cash.

This covers the cost of claims (legal fees and compensation) if someone accuses the charity or its people of negligence in their advice or services that has caused them loss.

This covers legal expenses for disputes if your charity needs to take legal action or defend itself against civil proceedings. This is for issues such as employment disputes, contract disputes, charity commission investigations, and tax protection.

This travel cover protects your directors, trustees, employees, and volunteers for trips outside of the country on behalf of your charity or not-for-profit. Emergency medical expenses and loss or damage to property are included. A 24-hour emergency helpline offers total support and reassurance.

This provides cover for your organisation's assets, such as buildings, contents, stock, and tenants' improvements. It can also cover asset transfers, including community centres and historical and grade-listed buildings.
