Howden Employee Benefits & Wellbeing is the first Employee Benefits Consultancy to sign up to Mindful Business Charter

Howden Employee Benefits & Wellbeing, part of the global Insurance Broking group, is the first employee benefits consultancy to sign up to the Mindful Business Charter, which is committed to developing better working practices to support mental health and wellbeing. The Charter is supported by mental health charity Mind, the Law Society, LawCare and the Solicitors Regulatory Authority.

In signing the Charter, Howden Employee Benefits & Wellbeing joins a number of businesses and law firms in a collective commitment to change working practices and remove the unnecessary stress that can affect employees' mental health and wellbeing, which will lead to more effective working and enhanced productivity.

The Mindful Business Charter aims to promote a culture of openness about mental wellbeing, ensure that responsible business is included as an area of assessment during significant procurement processes and drive forward the actions and necessary change in support of the principles of the Charter.

Howden Employee Benefits & Wellbeing has committed to abide by the Charter’s principles which are centred on improving communication, showing respect for working hours and ensuring the considerate delegation of tasks. Its performance against these principles will be monitored during review meetings.

Adam Riley, Director, Global Client Development and Head, Legal Sector Practice, said, “We are delighted to be  a signatory of the Charter. “People First” is our core business value. We have several initiatives in place already including an extensive wellbeing programme, ‘Million for a Million’[1], a RESPECT committee and our focus on Corporate Social Responsibility, which gives every employee two volunteering days a year. Signing up to the Charter also demonstrates our commitment to build a healthy, inclusive and supportive environment for our people.”

‘’Our commitment extends beyond our own employees and includes our clients and partners too. We are passionate about changing the way employers approach wellbeing and mental health in the workplace, in particular amongst the legal sector and wider UK Plc.’’

‘’When we first looked at the Charter, it became evident that the four pillars it is centred around can create a positive difference to the way our people work, our internal processes and how we work with clients. It also puts employee wellbeing and mental health to the top of the agenda, so it becomes a regular discussion point for our senior leaders.’’
