Howden Employment Seminar -  Tuesday 24th September 2019  -  Agenda

09:00      Registration, coffee and networking

09:40      Welcome

09:50      Employee Benefits:        “From Rogue Male to Rogue Mail”

The uncertainty of Brexit currently dominates the business landscape, yet there are still plenty of other people management issues that employers must tackle without delay.  Steve will remind the audience of some key topics including workplace mental health, the ageing workforce, and the vital (but often overlooked) issue of good succession planning.  An engaging (and hopefully entertaining) session from Howden’s well-known Employee Benefits thought-leader.

Speaker:  Steve Herbert, Head of Benefits Strategy, Howden Employee Benefits & Wellbeing

10:25      Absence Management:    “Getting the most out of Occupational Health”

The use of Occupational Health to assist in the management of long-term sickness absence is often viewed rather negatively by UK employers. Yet this important offering could – and should – be a central component of employer policy and procedures.  Dr Charlie Vivian will explore this topic in this informed and entertaining presentation.

Speaker:  Dr Charlie Vivian, Consultant Occupational Physician, Icarus Health Solutions Ltd

10:55      Break/ Refreshments/ Networking

11:15      Employment Law:        “Employment Law Update”

Stephanie Merritt will provide delegates with the latest updates on the always relevant subject of Employment Law. Topics covered will include executive and gender pay gap reporting, upgrading worker rights following the “Good Work Plan”, IR35 reform for businesses, and of course the first Supreme Court ruling on restricted covenants in the last 100 years.  A necessary and useful session for all delegates.

Speaker:  Stephanie Merritt, Senior Associate, Knights Plc

11:45      Closing comments/ Prize draw (the chance to win a Luxury Hamper)

12:00      Event concludes/ Optional FREE access to Bristol Zoo Gardens

Due to the number of topics to be covered, the level of detail may vary.  Speakers will focus on the subject areas that are topical and most likely to be relevant at the time of the seminar
