Combined cover that protects you

Combined Liability insurance is there to protect individual rowers, coaches and volunteers in the event of an incident.

As a member of British Rowing, you are provided with Combined Liability cover to protect you in the event of an injury to a third party or damage to property.

Qualified coaches are also provided with Professional Indemnity insurance in respect of the advice you provide as part of your coaching. Your Combined Liability cover is worth up to £10 million and there is no excess.

Your cover is applicable to all training and competitions worldwide, including:

  • Sliding and fixed seat rowing
  • Indoor rowing
  • training and competition activities recognised and approved by British Rowing
  • Competitive cycling, when organised by British Rowing
  • Cycling on non-hazardous terrain, such as parks and open spaces
  • Beach sprint rowing
  • Coastal rowing

Competitions

When arranging any competition or event you have a duty of care towards those taking part, including spectators. It is your responsibility to reduce or eliminate loss, injury or damage to others and you may be held legally liable if you fail to do so.

British Rowing requires events to be safe and operating at low levels of risk. All competitions or events need to provide a safety plan, welfare plan and risk assessment to conform to the requirements of the insurance provided.

Your Combined Liability Insurance cover protects the organisers of British Rowing affiliated regattas and processional races, as well as those regattas that are compliant with British Rowing Rules, RowSafe and are individually approved by British Rowing. This will protect the organisers and organising committee against the cost of a claim made against you following injury to someone else or damage to their property. Cover is provided up to a maximum limit of £10m.

360o liability insurance

One of the requirements of having this insurance is that all competitors must be British Rowing members. This is to ensure that if any individual is injured during the event of the competition, then there are funds available to pay compensation where appropriate.

Protection for your assets

You can arrange additional Asset Protection for your equipment as part of your combined liability cover.

The boats and equipment owned by a club are valuable assets and cover is provided for all risks of damage including collision, fire and theft. In addition, the policy provides cover for road transit, including European cover, and loaned or hired boats.
